Manzano Pepper

🔥🔥

Scoville: 12,000 - 50,000

The Manzano Pepper, also known as the Rocoto Pepper, is a remarkable heirloom variety native to the high elevations of South America. Unlike most peppers, Manzanos produce thick, juicy walls and distinctive black seeds, a rare characteristic that immediately sets them apart. The round, apple-like shape inspired the name Manzano, which means "apple" in Spanish. As the fruits mature, they ripen from green to vibrant shades of red, orange, or yellow, creating a colorful display among the plant's lush foliage.

Size

The peppers typically measure 2 to 3 inches in diameter and have a smooth, glossy surface with firm, crunchy flesh. Manzano plants are unique among peppers because they thrive in cooler temperatures and can grow much larger than many other Capsicum varieties, often producing abundant harvests over a long season.

Taste

The Manzano Pepper is prized for its crisp texture and exceptional flavor. It offers bright, fruity notes with hints of citrus and tropical fruit, balanced by a pleasant sweetness. The thick flesh provides a juicy bite, while the heat arrives gradually and lingers, creating a flavorful experience without overpowering the pepper's natural complexity.
